Experience the 2016 PEC Environment Ride

In what has now become a summer tradition, PEC hosted the sixth annual Environment Ride from June 3-5.

Participants spent the weekend biking through the scenic trails of Southeast Pennsylvania, showcasing the beauty of Doylestown, Bethlehem, and Northern Bucks County before arriving in Philadelphia and riding down Spring Garden Street. Riders had the option to participate in the three-day or one-day rides, with each culminating in a closing party at the Fairmount Waterworks overlooking the Schuylkill River.

Featuring a new route in its sixth year, the one-day ride portrayed much of PEC’s work in facilitating the development of The Circuit Trails and the East Coast Greenway.

“The thing for me is that it’s an opportunity to showcase all those places that give us a reason to work, the places that might need some work, but also just celebrate what the diversity is in the Commonwealth,” said Frank Maguire, PEC Program Director for Trails and Recreation.

Highlights included several miles on the Delaware Canal towpath, the “mountains” of Falls Township, Pennsbury Manor, William Penn’s reconstructed manor, the Bristol Borough mansion row on the Delaware, Glen Foerd, a historic mansion sited on a bluff where the Poquessing enters the Delaware, the beautiful Lardner’s Point Park at the base of the spectacular Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, and neighborhood sights of Tacony, Bridesburg, Port Richmond, and Fishtown.
