Photos from the 2021 Environment Ride

The second weekend in October, PEC hosted the 11th annual Environment Ride. The ride helps raise funds for for PEC’s conservation work, and attracts a small group of dedicated riders each year. This year’s route highlighted water quality issues in the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays, and Pennsylvania’s role in improving the health of both bodies of water.

After riders arrived in Wilmington on day one, they began their ride on the Jack-Markell Trail from Wilmington to Newcastle. Riders made a stop in Delaware City for lunch with a view of the Delaware Bay and then biked to Chestertown, Maryland to rest for day two.

Day two’s route explored the Eastern Shore of Maryland and enjoyed scenic routes along the bay as riders travelled back to Wilmington. Riders had the option of doing a full century ride, or 100 miles.

Day 3 was spent back in Pennsylvania. The route travelled through the Brandywine River Valley to Valley Forge National Historic Park, stopping for lunch at the Rushton preserve in Edgmont. It ended with a ride down the Schuylkill River Trail to Philadelphia.
