It’s Official: Montgomery County Is All In on Circuit Trails

This morning the Board of Commissioners of Montgomery County officially proclaimed their support for completing 500 miles of Circuit Trails by 2025.  Montgomery County is a trail leader with the most miles of Circuit Trails completed and is home to the renowned Schuylkill River Trail (SRT), the Perkiomen Trail, the Cross County Trail and the Pennypack Trail.

Commissioner Val Arkoosh remarked that when she asks county residents the one thing they most like about Montco, they often say “trails.”  Taking that to heart, the County is working to complete “gaps” in the SRT, as well as, an extension of the Chester Valley Trail that will result in a continuous trail deep into the heart of Chester County intersecting with the SRT in downtown Norristown. Commissioner Arkoosh also serves as chair of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, the region’s transportation planning agency, so her interest and support drive the agenda regionally and statewide through PennDoT.

In order to build 500 miles by 2025, trail building must increase from roughly 12 miles completed each year to 20 miles a year.  This means more focus, time, and money is needed.  Today’s action by Montgomery County and recent resolutions by more than 20 other municipalities is building the support needed to achieve the 500 mile milestone which would be roughly 65% completion of the entire 750 mile network.

Thank you again Montgomery County Commissioners Arkoosh, Gale, and Lawrence!
