DEP Accepting Applications for 2022 Governor’s Awards

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is now accepting applications for the 2022 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence.

“These awards bring much-deserved recognition to environmental stewards who, project by project, improve Pennsylvania,” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “Whether they’re boots on the ground or creators of innovative solutions that help lead us in new directions in environmental protection, their work greatly benefits all of us in the Commonwealth.”

The 2022 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence is open to any Pennsylvania business, farm, government agency, educational institution, non-profit organization, and individual that has created, or participated in, the development of a project that promotes environmental stewardship. Individuals and organizations are invited to apply for the 2022 Awards for projects completed prior to the application window opening, on October 4, 2021.

Complete instructions and applications for the award can be found on the DEP website here: http://www.dep.pa.gov/About/Awards/EnvironmentalExcellence/Pages/default.aspx

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Friday December 31, 2021.

Awardees will be notified in the spring of 2022. Please share this information with other environmental stewards working toward a resilient future for Pennsylvania, and encourage them to apply!

The Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence have been presented since 1996. Last year DEP received dozens of applications from private businesses, non-profits, schools, universities, local governments, and state institutions. These projects increased energy efficiency, reduced emissions, helped restore watersheds, provided environmental education opportunities, utilized smart growth in planning and design, and accomplished a variety of other conservation goals in both energy and natural resources.
