Held at Pittsburgh’s Westin Convention Center Hotel and sponsored by Dominion and over a dozen other benefactors, the awards are presented annually to local organizations that demonstrate leadership, effectiveness, and results in making an impact on the environment. This year’s winners were the Environmental Charter School (Pittsburgh), McKean County Conservation District (Smethport), Paint Creek Regional Watershed Association (Windber), and Sustainable Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh).

“What this program has allowed us to do is to recognize dozens of individuals and organizations for their exemplary work for the environment in this region,” PEC President/CEO Davitt Woodwell said.

“Dominion is proud of tonight’s winners and grateful for all they do to make the communities better places to live and work,” added Dominion Vice President and Chief Environmental Officer Pam Faggert.

Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Acting Secretary John Quigley was the evening’s keynote speaker. Praising each of the four awardees for their commitment to the environment, Quigley went on to discuss DEP’s quest for transparency and integrity. Additionally, he cited the Department’s commitment to collaboration and its renewed effort to “show the work.”

“Tonight we recognize innovative and effective work that makes a difference for our environment, for our economy, and for communities in Southwest Pennsylvania,” he said.

Each of the awardees took home $5,000 from Dominion and PEC to donate to a nonprofit environmental program of their choice.

PEC serves the entire state with programs and staff spanning the Commonwealth. For more information on PEC and each of the four winners, visit www.pecpa.org.
