The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC), in conjunction with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, will be conducting Community Illegal Dumpsite Cleanup Events in your area this spring, and we need your help.
We’re seeking volunteers for the Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania from April 18th through May 8th, when we will remove trash and debris from several sites identified and evaluated just before the blizzard of 2017.
This event is the latest in an ongoing series of cleanups organized by PEC’s Community Illegal Dumpsite Cleanup Program, which over the past two years has eradicated 82 illegal dumpsites in a four-county region. In conjunction with the Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania and the International Coastal Clean-up, we have removed and disposed of more than 150 tons of trash, 33 tons of assorted metals, and nearly 6,000 discarded tires.
Volunteers have been critical to the success of each of these efforts. Since 2015, more than 800 of your neighbors have logged over 4400 hours cleaning up sites in Pike, Potter, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties. Individuals, families, scouting groups, 4H groups, environmental clubs, businesses, college and university clubs, and high school students can all make a difference.
