Celebrate PA Land Trails this September!

Pittsburgh — The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) are pleased to offer mini-grants of up to $500 to help community organizations and trail groups celebrate PA Trails Month, September 2019.

The purpose of this grant is to support local efforts to encourage people to get out and enjoy the trails. Need supplies for your fun run? Want to offer a shuttle service for the day on your rail trail? Want to make bikes available free of charge? These would all be considered eligible expenses for this grant.

Non-profit organizations, municipalities, counties, and educational institutions planning single-day, public trail events during the month of September are encouraged to apply. An expansive definition of “trails” may be applied; however, eligible activities will emphasize human-powered recreation on public lands. Grants are available to help with event logistics and are not intended for maintenance costs or construction. Volunteer work days will be considered if the goal of the event is to engage with a new audience. This grant is focused on land trails, as water trails already have a similar program in the River Sojourns program.

Applications may be submitted via the PEC website through May 15. Award recipients should expect to be notified by the first week of June, 2019.

The PA Land Trails mini-grant program is a project of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, and is funded through DCNR’s Environmental Stewardship Fund administered by the Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.
