Senate Bill 790, which PEC has opposed in the current legislative session, was amended in the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee this week to remove one problematic provision relating to road spreading of produced brine water. However, the remainder of the legislation — which collectively represent a significant rollback of environmental protections that have been standard operating procedure for oil and gas operations for years — remains intact. As such, PEC (along with the Environmental Defense Fund), remains opposed to the bill.
