Re: Support for Final Rulemaking for Oil & Gas Operations

Dear Members of the Committee:

With the just-announced agenda for tomorrow’s Committee meeting, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) wishes to restate our strong support for the Department of Environmental Protection’s proposed Final Rulemaking (Chapter 78 and 78a) for oil and gas operations.

I am attaching a letter PEC sent to both the Environmental Quality Board and Independent Regulatory Review Commission on January 26 in support of the rulemaking. The letter is also available online.

We urge the Committee to support this rulemaking, which is expressly compelled by Act 13 of 2012 and other environmental protection statutes of the Commonwealth.

Thank you for your consideration,
John Walliser
Senior Vice President, Legal & Government Affairs
Pennsylvania Environmental Council
