There’s not much space to walk or wheel under the rail bridge spanning Railroad Avenue. Pedestrians on their way to or from Lackawanna Avenue find themselves inches from cars whizzing by.

“You’ve either got to be fast or real, real thin to get through there,” said Robert Doble, a Reilly Associates engineering consultant hired by Lackawanna Heritage Valley to study the feasibility of widening the sidewalk and more effectively connecting the trail to downtown Scranton.

Lackawanna Heritage Valley officials hope to achieve both with a project to upgrade the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail. They unveiled the possibilities at a public meeting Monday…
