Bethlehem Authority Honored for Watershed Project

The Nature Conservancy and the Bethlehem Authority, which oversees the land surrounding the city’s water supply, will be recognized Thursday for its sustainable forestry project by the Northeast Environmental Partners.

The project includes a timbering program where the authority performs “environmental cuts” that promote forest regeneration and a carbon credit program where the authority gets money to preserve its forest from corporate polluters looking to offset their footprints.

The authority, the financial arm of the city’s water operations, owns nearly 23,000 acres in Carbon and Monroe counties.
