Get Out On a River this June

The coming month is packed with opportunities to experience Pennsylvania’s beautiful waterways. Each weekend has at least one river sojourn scheduled, hosted by watershed organizations around the state. Sojourns offer so much more than a paddling trip — these guided adventures foster community, promote education and stewardship, and include plenty of time for relaxing and socializing. 

Stony-Kiski-Conemaugh Rivers Sojourn: June 2nd – 5th

The Stony-Kiski-Conemaugh Rivers sojourn showcases the river valley in a 44-mile, four day float. Kayak or canoe for one or all four days through Conemaugh and Packsaddle Gaps, with stops at unique communities along the borders of Somerset, Cambria, Indiana, Westmoreland, and Armstrong Counties in SW PA, and a visit to Saltsburg’s Historic Canal Days Festival. Perkiomen Creek Sojourn: June 4th

Join the adventure on June 4th and paddle a ten-mile stretch of the Perkiomen Creek from Schwenksville to Oaks. Explore the scenic beauty and hidden treasures of the Perkiomen. Chat with old friends and make some new ones. Enjoy lunch at Cranberry Park, and learn a little about the Creek.

French Creek River of the Year Sojourn: June 11th

Celebrate PA’s 2022 River of the Year with a relaxing 9-mile paddle on French Creek. Paddlers will start at Bicentennial Park in Meadville and end at Shaw’s Landing. The celebration will continue afterwards at Voodoo Brewery with food trucks and educational tables.

Lehigh River Sojourn: June 11th and 12th

The 26th annual Lehigh River Sojourn is Wildlands Conservancy’s guided paddling and biking trip through the Lehigh River Watershed. The event begins in the Pocono Mountains and ends in Easton. The trip features scenic views and wildlife sightings and helps cultivate a shared appreciation for preserving the Lehigh River. Join for one or both days.

Delaware River Sojourn: June 17th – 25th

Spend a week paddling and camping on the Delaware with the Delaware River Sojourn. Travelers can sign up for the entire trip or for the sections or days of their choice. All along the way, participants will learn about the river’s ecology and ties to local communities, and river stewardship.

Schuylkill River Sojourn: June 18th – 24th

The Schuylkill River Sojourn is an annual 112-mile guided canoe/kayak trip on the Schuylkill River that begins in rural Schuylkill Haven and ends seven days later at Philadelphia’s Boathouse Row. Participants paddle 14 to 18 miles per day and camp overnight throughout the trip. Join for one day or the whole week.
