Statement of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council on Governor Shapiro’s Energy Strategy Announcement
Governor Shapiro’s announcement today recognizes the critical importance of ensuring a reliable, affordable, and cleaner supply of energy to power our homes and economy in Pennsylvania.
The governor has proposed sensible changes needed to responsibly reduce emissions through an ‘all of the above’ energy strategy that advances clean technologies through targeted tax credits, an updated Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard, improved energy efficiency, distributed energy development, and siting of energy infrastructure. These policies will also grow our economy, deliver cost savings to consumers, and diversify power generation, bringing new sources of energy online to make the grid more reliable.
The status quo is not a solution. We look forward to reviewing these proposals in greater detail and working with the governor, the state legislature, and all stakeholders to move Pennsylvania forward on a pathway to clean, affordable, reliable energy.
