Endless Mountains Heritage Region 2019 Heritage Sojourn
May 16, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - May 18, 2019 @ 5:00 pm
This wonderful river trip will include students, teachers, and others environmental and historical agencies from around the region. This trip is available for students, teachers and chaperones from the across the area. Scouts and church youth groups may also join this event, which is geared mostly for educating the local youth about the Susquehanna River. Participants should have an interest in the outdoors, camping, kayaking and learning about their history, environment, and being a Steward for the river.
The goal of this trip is to educate students and other attendees about the environment, stewardship, ecology, wildlife, camping, kayaking, history and so much more. Participants will be tent camping along the way. At the end of this three-day, two-night excursion students will collaborate with each other to create a presentation for a culminating activity. If weather does not cooperate due to high water we will be paddling on lakes instead of the river.
Day 1 Thursday May 16 – Arrive at Camp Lackawanna from 4pm-5pm for registration. We will be setting up camp, demonstrating kayaks and paddle boards, eating dinner and listening to Joe Fischer talk about Sullivan’s March and Leadership.
DAY 2, Friday May 17 – 12 river miles: After eating breakfast, we will shuttle to Endless Mountain Outfitters in Wyalusing and pick up paddlers joining us for the day. Then we will begin our paddle to Laceyville. We will be stopping along the way for lunch and a presentation. The evening will consist dinner, hiking, entertainment by Grapefruit Cannonball, and a drum circle and campfire stores that night.
DAY 3, Saturday May 18 – 14 river miles: After breakfast, we will be breaking down camp. We will be paddling from Laceyville to Camp Lackawanna. It is common to see eagles and other birds on this section of the river. We will be eating lunch along the river and participating in a river clean up and discussion about Stewardship. Participants will be participating in a culminating activity and presenting different topics they have discussed while on the river to wrap up their trip.
If you or your school is interested in participating or have questions about this event, please contact Keith Brown at [email protected] and he will answer all of your questions. We look forward to seeing you and enjoying the river with past and new friends!
