A Pioneer in Science: The Conestoga Study and the Woman Behind It

What: Lecture by Stroud Center Distinguished Research Scientist Bern Sweeney, Ph.D., with remarks by Millersville University Professor of STEM Education, Nanette Marcum-Dietrich, Ph.D.

When: Monday, June 3. Doors open at 6 p.m. for light refreshments. Lecture begins at 6:45 p.m. and event concludes by 8 p.m.

Dr. Ruth Patrick was a visionary ecologist, a champion of environmental protection, and a mentor and inspiration to future scientists for more than seventy years. Her 1948 Conestoga study, which combined biological and chemical data to assess the river’s pollution level, was a major breakthrough in the study of freshwater science. Learn more about Dr. Patrick, her career as a woman scientist, and her pioneering research with distinguished research scientist, Dr. Bern Sweeney.
