Why Participate in the Ride?
As a statewide non-profit, PEC is a leader in trail planning and development across the Commonwealth. The Environment Ride supports PEC’s trail work.
In the Philadelphia area, PEC is a founder and leader of the Circuit Trails Coalition which advocates for the completion of the 800+ miles of multi-purpose, inter-connected trails straddling the Delaware River into New Jersey. Trails such as the East Coast Greenway, the Schuylkill River Trail, Chester Valley Trail, and Delaware Canal Trail are part of the Circuit Trails network. PEC staff work with communities to build their sections of Circuit Trails.
Overview: On the Ride
3-day ride
This year’s ride will take place in beautiful Southcentral Pennsylvania focusing on Adams and York counties! We will launch off in Harrisburg and traverse rolling terrain and arrive in Gettysburg for Friday night. Our weekend is the annual National Apple Harvest Festival, and we’ll traverse the hilly apple district of Adams County and enjoy its panoramic views of nearby South Mountain. That day, our ride will conclude on a stretch of the York Heritage Rail Trail as we roll into the historic and diverse City of York. Sunday morning, we’ll ride east, crossing the Susquehanna River and catch Amtrak back to Philadelphia that afternoon!
1-day ride
By popular demand, we are once again offering a one-day route option. One-day riders may select any day to ride and one overnight accommodation and meals are included. One-day riders are responsible for making their own transportation arrangements for joining and leaving the Ride.
Crew & Volunteers
Volunteers are welcomed in many capacities: to support the riders with logistics, safety, and fun! Crew travel with the Ride, enjoying meals and overnight accommodations. Volunteers may also raise money for PEC without riding!
Teams
Share the love for Pennsylvania’s environment – form a team! Being part of a team is a great way to build support for PEC! Any group of three or more can form a team and share the experience from start to finish! Teams have reduced per person fundraising minimums, so recruiting a team fun and less of a financial challenge. You will have both an individual as well as a shared team fundraising account.
