New Video Series Goes Behind the Scenes of Electricity Distribution

How much do you know about how electricity gets delivered to your home? We all know that when we flip the switch, the lights come on. But for many of us, that’s where our understanding of electricity begins and ends. In reality, there’s a complex and largely invisible system that manages how electricity is produced, transported, and distributed.

A new video series from Duquesne Light Company (DLC) begins to demystify “distribution,” the step in the process that delivers the electricity directly to individual homes and businesses.

DLC produced these short videos to highlight the men and women who play a role in keeping the lights on. And while these clips are specific to the DLC service territory (Pittsburgh and portions of its suburbs), the types of jobs being performed hold true for all electricity distribution companies, including PECO, PPL, West Penn, Penelec, Metropolitan Edison, and the municipally-owned utilities and rural cooperatives that provide electricity to Pennsylvania homes and businesses.
