9/11 Memorial Trail Project Needs Your Vote(s)

The effort to build a 1,300-mile trail memorializing the September 11 attacks could take a big step forward with up to $100,000 in funding from NRG Energy — and you can help secure it with your vote in the NRG Gives contest. Our partners at the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies are up for the prize, which will be awarded to whichever of three finalist organization receives the most online votes by Friday, December 9th.

The September 11 Memorial Trail will link the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville south to the Great Allegheny Passage, forming a single continuous route to the Pentagon Memorial in Washington, D.C. The prize money from NRG would support planning and construction of that trail section and another leading north to Johnstown. From there, the trail’s northern leg will eventually connect the Flight 93 site with New York City, and finally back to D.C.
